We are delighted to announce that the ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ will be holding a series of free guided tours as part of the national ; England’s largest festival of history and culture.

We are excited to be opening our doors to you over the weekend of 13-14 September 2025, so come and discover the university's rich history.

There will be additional tours of the Turner Museum of Glass only, on 16 and 18 September. 

The tours will be free but you will need to book. Tickets will be available from 1 August. 


This year the theme is architecture and we want to open up some of our most architecturally significant buildings with tours that will include:

Firth Court and the Rotunda

Firth Court is a stunning Edwardian Grade II listed ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ administrative building and houses the equally impressive Firth Hall.

The Sir Frederick Mappin Building, is a grade II-listed building fronting onto Mappin Street, Sheffield. The building and street are named after Sir Frederick Mappin (1821–1910) who was a ¾«¶«Ó°Òµfactory owner and politician who supported the formation of the ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ and subsequently became the first Pro-Chancellor in 1905.

Alfred Denny Museum

Named after the department's first professor of biology, Alfred Denny, the museum was established in 1905 and has been used for undergraduate teaching for more than 100 years. Many of the specimens have been in the museum since the early 1900s when collecting was at its peak.

William Earnest Stephen Turner was a British chemist and pioneer of scientific glass technology. He established the Department of Glass Manufacture at University College ¾«¶«Ó°Òµin 1915, and founded the Turner Museum of Glass in 1943.


In addition there will also be a free exhibition at Western Bank Library about Architecture which will run from 21 July to 18 December 2025. 

Visitors can access the exhibition during normal opening times which are shown below:

  • Monday - Friday: 09:00 - 17:00
  • Saturday and Sunday: 10:00 - 18:00

On 13 September there will be a single tour at 10:30 led by Dr Xiang Ren of the School of Architecture and Landscape; this is a ticketed event and again, tickets for this tour will be available from 1 August.


To book, tickets will be released on 1 August via a link that will appear here shortly.  Tickets will be allocated on a first come, first serve basis and will be limited, so please book early.
