Description

This is lecture 3 of ‘URBAN RICHES’, a public lecture series organised by the Urban Institute Urban Riches group.

This presentation will be delivered by Katie Higgins and examines an under-researched site ofcohesion for the capitalist class: CEO peer groups. Drawing on analysisof archives and interviews with 100+ CEO peer group members, their family, and intermediaries who train members in appropriate behaviour, the presentationanalyses one global CEO peer organisation in depth to ask, first, what do theseorganisations do for their members and, second, how do they land in threedifferent urban contexts.

The presentation reveals new trends in how thecapitalist class approach and experience self-optimisation, connection, privacyand exclusivity with one another – not least through their use of therapeuticcultural resources.

Katie Higgins is Lecturer in Sociology at the ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ. Her research interests include families and wealth, elitecohesion, the business class and qualitative research methods.
